Bentley & Alvis Aventure - Day Three

Day 3 Monday August 26th 2019 - Kilwinning to Corran  Leave hotel onto A737 and use this road all the way to M8 then M898 over Erskin Bridge. Follow A82 alongside Loch Lomond the left onto A83 via Inveraray to Auchindarrach.  Take A816 north to Oban. Leave Oban on A85 to Lova Falls Bridge, A828 to Ballachulish Bridge, A82 to Corran Bunkhouse near Fort William.  169 miles

Bit of an eventful day.  Began with a very below average breakfast but at least we were on the road by 7.30am.  Didn't take long to reach Loch Lomond where we stopped for a coffee where the old coach stopped.  Not very busy and the lovely coffee/ice cream building had been closed for the last year.

Decided to take a longer route (bear in mind the cars can travel at 60mph as opposed to the 35mph of the old coach).  Drove through Inveraray and took the coat road to Oban.  This has to be one of the very best drives of my life! Beautiful scenery, nearly empty roads, fine weather, a pre-war Bentley and Tom and Molcolm in the other car!  We stopped in Oban and parked at the fishing harbour.  The fish restaurant looked to good to ignore and we partook in a delightful meal.  Tom had Calamari followed by Lemon Sole and Malcolm a bowl of Mussels and Turbot, myself Scallops and Turbot.  It was Devine! Another beautiful drive along a single track road behind Oban and North up to Corran.

It was decided that we should visit Fort William for some light food to have during the evening.  Tom and I have chosen cheese and oatcakes, Malcolm an Aberdeen Angus Steak!  Unfortunately at the very last of the day I had a puncture in the Bentley.  Now for most people it's a simply job to change the wheel, not so for a pre-war Bentley.  I shall have to see a local tyre centre can repair tomorrow.  Challenging end to an otherwise perfect day.
